Arthur McMahon - Hiker/Writer

Arthur loves to walk. It's as simple as that. Whether it be in the mountains, on the beach, or along the city streets -- he believes walking is the best way to experience the world. Hiking and camping had always been a regular part of his life, but Arthur's 2015 thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail sparked a passion for the outdoors that continues to this day. He hasn’t stopped crushing miles since.

  1.  What’s the worst trail/adventure meal you’ve ever concocted?

In my early days of lightweight backpacking I carried a variety of powdered rehydratable food. I had eaten some rehydrated chili in my ziploc bowl, but I was still hungry. Rather than washing out the bowl for the next food I figured some instant mashed potatoes would blend well with the chili leftovers. Great idea, right? Well unfortunately I had a few baggies of white powder, all unlabeled. Without much consideration I dumped what I though was the potatoes into the bowl and added water. To my dismay I soon realized that I had confused the instant potatoes with powdered horchata (Mexican sweet milk). I had made a bowl of sweet and spicy chili milk, and I was hungry enough to drink it. And you know what? It was somewhat good. Maybe it wasn't the "worst" meal I've concocted, but it was odd, for sure.

  2. What animal would be most terrifying if it could speak?

    Ants. Oh god.

  3. What do you appreciate most in your friends?

    Kindness-- inward and outward.

  4. What song would you choose as your “entrance” song, to announce you?

    Sweet- The Ballroom Blitz

  5. What is the dumbest way you’ve been injured?

I herniated a disc in my lower back by lifting my girlfriend off of a living room couch when I was in college. I had a final exam the next morning and had to shuffle my feet all the way across campus. It was the worst.

  6. If you had a billboard, what would it say to represent you?

Let's make it a digital billboard synced up to an Arthur McMahon app. Anyone can write whatever they want! What could possibly go wrong?

  7. Who or what inspires you?

My wife. My parents. My friends. My family.

  8. What are the five things you cannot do without?

My wife. A bit of alone time each day. Something to read. The privilege to step outside and go on an adventure whenever I please. An early morning cup of coffee.

  9. What is your favorite breakfast meal?

    Homemade banana bread and coffee.

  10. If you could time travel, when/where would you go?

I'd skip around the future as much as I could. I can already spend my time learning about the past, but no one can tell me about the future. Let's go take a look and see where humanity goes.
